About

My journey

My path to becoming a college admissions counselor was a circuitous one, but one that ultimately led me to my dream job!

Whether I knew it at the time or not, each of the steps along my path gave me more insight into who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. As a teenager, I watched my father, who was my high school’s vice principal and athletic director, guide countless students, myself included, through the college process. That planted the seed!

In 1988, I graduated from Denison University in Ohio with a degree in Economics. From there, I moved to Boston for my first job as an underwriter trainee for an insurance company. Over the ensuing ten years, I moved from underwriting to supervisory roles to corporate training, all in the insurance industry.

After the birth of my first child, I decided to stay home full time to raise our family. My volunteer efforts centered around my kids’ schools – director of the board of our kids’ nursery school and PTA committee positions that focused on literacy and social/emotional wellness.

As my oldest daughter reached high school, I started to feel the “frenzy” of the college admissions process. It was then that I realized that I wanted to become a college admissions counselor. I wanted to ease the stress of the process and encourage my daughter (and her friends!) to really understand who they were and what they were looking for in a college. And with two younger children following close behind, I realized that the more I understood the intricacies of the journey, the better I’d be able to help them as well.

I received a Certificate in College Counseling, with distinction, from UCLA in June of 2014. This two-year graduate-level program gave me a foundation of the college admissions process and financial aid concepts.

By helping each student uncover and articulate their dreams, fears, and interests, they will find a college that fits them best. I feel so privileged to participate in this process with my students.

I am a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, a professional organization that ensures that its members are fully vetted and demonstrate the highest standards in education, training, ethics, and experience.
